IJ Start Canon PIXMA TS5180 Configuration– The Canon Pixma TS5180 is a basic all-in-one built for home use. For $ $70, this inkjet printer is among the less expensive models. Although the resource pool emphasize simplicity, you get a Duplexer for making 2-sided prints (a resource usually available only in more expensive models).
The TS5180 has a small body and comes in black or white. It’s small, with 16.8 cm wide by 12.5 cm deep and 5.8 cm tall, and could fit into a table. Without paper loaded, he weighs a little more than 14 pounds, light enough so you can move it easily. The small 2.5-inch LCD is just a screen, not a touch screen. There are, however, physical buttons that facilitate independent operation. This printer does not have an automatic document feeder on top and has no SD card slot or USB direct print port to print from a memory card or Flash drive, respectively.

There is no automatic document feeder on top. At the bottom of the frame is the paper cassette, with an output tray just above him. The output tray is short and has a narrow flap that folds in a hinge for bear prints. Both the input tray as the outgoing seem fragile. I found the partial coverage for the input tape finicky to put back in place.
The paper cassette deals only with plain paper and can contain 100 leaves. On the back of the unit there is a second paper tray. After lifting the paper support, you can load up to 100 sheets of plain paper or 20 sheets of 4 by 6 inches.

Printing speed
The TS5180 printed our five-page text document in 36.1 seconds or 8.3 pages per minute. That’s an average speed. For example, the editor’s choice, the Epson XP-640, was a few seconds faster, with 33.1 seconds.

The TS5180 also printed our mixed text and document color graphics with average speed. At 2 minutes, 33 seconds (or 2.4 ppm), this printer was much slower than the fastest model we tested (the Epson XP-640), which took only 1 minute and 11 seconds.
The TS5180 makes text prints in front and back relatively slowly, the 2.2 ppm, compared with the average of 3.1 ppm. The 4 minutes and 29 seconds, it took more than a minute longer than average to print our document of 10 text pages.
However, the TS5180 is one of the faster models in printing 2-sided documents in color with mixed text and graphics. Printing our six-page document 2.2 ppm, TS5180 surpassed almost all other models. To 2 minutes and 47 seconds, the TS5180 was 40 seconds faster than the average of 3 minutes and 27 seconds.
The TS5180 was also faster than the average in our test image printing at high resolution settings in letter-size photo paper. It took 4 minutes, 3 seconds to do or 55 seconds faster than average. Several other models were significantly faster, however. Canon Pixma TS6020, for example, printed the same image in just 1 minute and 54 seconds.
The TS5180 printed a page of 4 by 6:00 pm 1 minute, 2 seconds in the default settings and in 2 minutes and 3 seconds on the best quality settings.

Copy and scan speed
The TS5180 turned on about medium speeds in our tests. He copied a page in black and white in 14.4 seconds or approximately 1 second faster than average. Epson XP-640 did the same copy in 11.8 seconds, while the HP Envy 5540 was significantly slower in 21.9 seconds.

Making a color copy in 29.3 seconds, the TS5180 was a little below average, but 10 seconds slower than the Canon Pixma TS6020, that’s very fast. The Epson XP-640 did a color copy in 23 seconds.
Scanning in color the 600 dpi for the JPEG format, the TS5180 was faster than the average, with 61 seconds. Our editor’s choice, Epson XP-640, performed this task in just 41.6 seconds. At the other end of the spectrum, the HP Envy 5540 took 1:31 to do the same.

Scanning in black and white for the 300 dpi PDF, the TS5180 was incredibly fast. It took just 7.3 seconds to make one PDF, making the TS5180 the model faster in this test until today. In comparison, the Epson XP-640 took 16.1 seconds. This was the only test of speed on that TS5180 overcome the Pick of our Editor.

Print quality

The TS5180 printed very attractive colorful graphics on plain paper. The colors were well saturated, seemed natural and had many details. Halftone transitions seemed smooth. Similar to the double-sided prints text, colorful graphics printed using the duplexer seemed clearer; dark areas in particular printed on lighter tones. Details and halftone smooth transitions were kept, however.

Photographs printed on glossy paper showed lots of detail, richly saturated colors and soft textures. In our test picture, the skin tone seem natural, and in our impression of a still life, the TS5180 reproduced realistic shadows and many details.
The print quality was very high on the charts, which had many details and richly saturated colors. The text copied from originals in plain paper was dark enough and sharp enough, though the copies of letters thinner glossy magazine had a slightly diffuse margins.
The quality of the scan was good and similar to that of competitive models. The scans of photographs had accurate colors and well saturated and reproduced the details. Scans of graphics reproduced well the tonal range, although the text look more rough around the edges (but, again, on a par with the results of competitive models).
Cost of ink and yield
The TS5180 keeps buying simple, using only two ink cartridges: one black and one tricolor. Using standard cartridges, print estimated costs are above average. The TS5180 uses 10.6 cents of ink to text pages. In comparison, the Epson XP-640 has a cost per page of just 5.8 cents. Black ink costs are still above average using the XL cartridge, but the 7.7 cents, the TS5180 is still more expensive than most other models tested.

With 24.4 cents per color page, the TS5180 cost more than the average of the models tested. Once again, the Epson XP-640 is significantly lower, at 18.8 cents. Using high-yield cartridges, the cost per page of TS5180 is 15.7 cents. Although it is almost exactly the same as the 15.6 cents of HP Envy 5540, is not as low as 10 cents of Epson XP-640.
Configuration and Software
The TS5180 is easy to set up. After removing the packing tape from the inside and outside of the unit, follow the instructions on the screen until the printer tells you to continue with the printed guidebook “Starting”.

Connect to my PC, my phone and my Wi-Fi network was simple. For Wi-Fi, I used the WPS method, by pressing the button on my wireless router. The printer, however, took a while to make the connection.
The all-in-one comes with a CD-ROM, but the printed guide walks you through installing the software from the web. Be warned that if you choose the complete installation, it will include My Image Garden, which is a large download that you may not need. The screen showed, in principle, it would take 7 minutes to download the software and then would increase to 9 minutes.
My Image Garden does a lot of things, including scan.
I found the paper record feature TS5180 a bit confused. When you remove the paper cassette, you need to register the type of paper. But when you go to your PC, the paper does not change unless you have checked the box saying: “Let the application change my printing preferences”.
You can put TS5180 on your wireless network and use the Canon Print application with your smart device. Airprint is supported for iOS devices. To configure the TS5180 with my Android phone, simply follow the instructions on the printer display (iOS devices are also supported). Showed a password I typed on the touch screen of my Canon Print app phone. I found myself repeatedly trying to touch the TS5180 screen and think it is just a screen.
The TS5180 is started quickly, in just 6 seconds.

The Pixma TS5180 is a basic all-in-one that offers the flexibility of a duplexer and two paper trays. For a fair price, you get a respectable performance in a model with affordable price. However, the lack of touch screen functionality causes the independent operation is less than elegant.
In the end, the inferior quality of the prints front and back is disappointing, and the above-average ink costs will increase in the long term. For about the same price, the editor’s choice, the Epson XP-640, makes almost everything faster and offers lower costs of ink-and this includes duplex print faster, without affecting the quality of printing.

Along with this, users can work quickly thanks to print speeds of 13 ipm in black and 6.8 ipm in color to produce their homework, shopping lists or photos. Moreover, it has paper feed options front and rear which can work with media up to 8.5 x 14 “and can perform automatic duplex printing. Scanning and copying are possible due to the inclusion of a table of 8.5 x 11.7 “resolution of 1200 x 2400 dpi. This provides detailed scans of your documents. The TS5180 is a very connected, with support for the Canon PRINT application, Apple AirPrint and many other wireless services. A 2.5 LCD “is also present to view and adjust the settings.
