The all-in-one printer wireless Canon Pixma TS3129 ($79.99) is one of the very few printers inkjet distinguished by a list price less than $80 (and its retail price of $49.99 means that you can actually buy it for less than $50, making it even more unique). It is not only one of the all-in-one (AIO) printers mainstream cheaper that we reviewed recently, but she is also one of the features the smaller, slower and shorter. As the HP DeskJet 3755, the TS3129 is designed for families and homes that perform very few impressions and copies – a kind of device on demand. In this role, he is a less expensive alternative to the Canon Pixma TS5020 or the all-in-one Canon Pixma TS9120 although more expensive.
A minimalist from all points of view
5.8 x 12.5 x 17.2 inches (HWD) with closed plates and 8.2 kg, very few operators AIO are as small as the TS3129. The XP – 440 Small-One Home has a very close size and weighs only half a pound more. The next model of the TS, the Canon TS5020 series, is about four inches wide and is almost twice as heavy. In addition, the Canon TS5020 uses five inks, while the TS3129 uses only four, making it a better choice for printing photographs.
It is important to note that all these printers entry level increase in depth and height with their input and output trays made. The TS3129, for example, goes from 12.5 inches to 21.8 inches, and the model 3755 HP extends upwards about 5 inches and longer than 10 inches. Even in this case, most fit comfortably on an average desktop computer and the TS3129 (and its competitors) are designed to close easily, occupying less space as possible without being in service.
Another obvious advantage that the TS3129 is a low-volume printer is only instead of using a separate cartridge for each of its four inks (cyan, magenta, yellow and black or CMYK), it only uses two. A tank contains black ink and the other, the other three colors. Not only these types of ink cartridges contain less ink cartridges separated, but with the three color inks ink tank, the cartridge needs to be replaced when one of the three tanks is empty, regardless of quantity in the other two remaining ink. tanks. In other words, three ink reservoirs are often unnecessary.
For a while, it seemed the printer manufacturers moved away from this type of system of ink in both cartridges, but it seems to come back. HP now has several, including the HP DeskJet 3755 and the all-in-one recent Envy Photo 7855 of the company, a competitor much more expensive and has many features. ‘
In addition to ink to entry-level system, the processing capacity of the paper of the TS3129 with a single store of 60 leaves, compared to the two trays of 100 sheets of Canon TS5020 and TS9120, the place safely in the home column. HP 3755, meanwhile, contains also 60 sheets of paper and the unique tray Epson XP – 440 can hold up to 100 sheets.
Like the HP 3755, the TS3129 may not automatically print double-sided (automatic duplex) pages. You must return your documents manually to print on the other side. The Epson XP-440 can print double-sided without manual assistance pages. As you print probably not a lot of large documents, however, this should not be a major drawback.
Instead of a touchscreen type tablet with icons using a shortcut for the configuration and execution of various functions and profiles of workflow, the TS3129 comes with a control of entry level Panel composed of several buttons and an LCD monochrome “segment” 1.5 inch. ” You mainly use the Panel to configure and control functions, make copies, set the size and type of paper, etc. Most of the interactions will occur through your PC or your mobile device. Printing or scanning to cloud sites, for example, is configured and run from your smartphone or Tablet through a mobile applications of Canon.
Connections and software
Because the TS3129 is located at the bottom of the pecking order of the Canon-Pixma-TS series, it offers the least choice of connectivity. Standard connectivity includes WiFi and connection to a single PC via USB. You also get PictBridge for printing from Canon cameras specific, including some devices wireless cameras. The other four models of the TS-series also have Bluetooth technology, and the Canon TS9120 supports Ethernet. Mobile connectivity functions, even if they are less bulky than its siblings high-end, include the Canon Print, wireless and Pixma Link Cloud scanning application for, well, the connection to various sites popular cloud, as well as the own repository of files in cloud of Canon.
Because the IOA in the TS series are mainly designed to work with photos, the TS3129 software kit includes mainly utilities allowing to scan, improve, correct, manage and print photos. In addition to the drivers of the machine itself, you have also the utility to scan Canon, a relatively useful scan interface, given the price and scope of this AIO; Master Setup to configure and monitor the printer; My Printer Network Tool, to manage the TS3129 on your wireless network; My Image Garden, a collection of filters for improvement and correction, such as the removal of red-eye and cropping of images; and a few others. Finally, the quick menu, located in the lower right corner of your monitor, is a set of shortcuts to most of the hardware and software features.
Patience is a virtue
Although the TS3129 is not the printer the slowest I’ve seen recently, she is not far behind. Canon assesses the TS3129 to 7.7 pages per minute (ppm); 5.5 ppm, only the 3755 HP has a slower rating. When our 12-page slightly formatted Microsoft Word monochrome document printing, the TS3129 exceeded the 4.8 ppm, against 4.3 ppm for HP 3755. Otherwise, the TS3129 took about 3.5 ppm behind Epson XP – 440 and the Canon TS5020 and TS6120 about 8 ppm. Our all-in-one Pixma G2200 MegaTank Cannon, one of the models of super-reservoir of this company that pulls his ink bottles economic, rather than cartridges, produced our text to 2.3 ppm document faster than the TS3129.
Story Associeevoir how we test printers
When I combined the results of printing our more complex documents PowerPoint, Excel and Acrobat composed of colors, graphics and photos with the results of the test of previous Word document, the TS3129 score fell to 2.1 ppm, or approximately 1 page every 30 seconds. There again, he is surpassed HP 3755 (1.4 ppm), but none of the IOA in this group exceeded 5 ppm, either 10 seconds per page. Pixma TS5020 and TS6120 of Canon obtained the best results, at about 4.7 ppm. None of these public photo-centriques AIO is really adapted to the production of about 50 pages of professional documents per month.
However, many of them excellent in snapshots printing 4 x 6 inches (and 5 inches by 7 inches). Certainly, the average print time of the TS3129, which is 1 minute 4 seconds, is not terrible, but his siblings top of range (the TS5020 and the TS6120) have managed to print the same pages in about 20 seconds during our tests. As a general rule, if the quality of the driver is set to high, or optimum, a less than 1 minute printing time is pretty good.
The TS3129 has also printed some pretty pictures. They were bright, brilliantly colored and detailed – images which most people would be more than happy, I think. However, when I looked at side by side photo output of the TS3129 with the same images than the Pixma TS6120 six inks or the TS9120 six inks Canon, as well as the Expression Premium XP – 640-5 Epson inks, I saw a marked difference in the quality Te. The colors were much more brilliant, more saturated and well… more attractive, and the content itself was more detailed on the AIO to five and six inks.
Cost per photo
In addition to the optimized photo models of HP using the subscription program Instant Ink of this company, such as the Envy Photo 7855, most consumer photo printers have high operating costs, particularly in relation to their desktop counterparts. Here again, most printers in this price range – the photo-centric or not – have high costs of printing page.
As such, the cost per page monochrome 8.7 cents of the TS3129 and its price of 18.7 cents color are not so far from those of its competitors. Cost per page (CPP) of the HP 3755 is higher than 0.3% that of the TS3129, and the monochrome PPC is identical. However, as you print probably not a lot anyway, 6.2 cents Epson XP – 440 for monochrome printers and 18.2 cents for colors are not much better, at least for this class of printers. However, given that the XP-440 Epson uses separate ink tanks for each color (with three wells of the TS3129 cartridges, you may discard the unused ink), the costs of operation of XP-440 could even be a bit lower.
Regarding the other TS series Pixmas, I wasn’t able to calculate precise CPC for five and six inks machines, mainly because it was not possible to determine when, where and how much additional inks were used. Suffice to say that their operating costs are probably not very different either, because all of these consumer photo printers are small AIO.
Quality for less performance
The all-in-one inkjet wireless Canon Pixma TS3129’s, the IOA in the TS series at the lowest price, offers a good print quality at a great price, but a saving of a few dollars compared to one of his brothers and sisters to five or six inks costs you RA. in terms of speed and quality of photo output. It prints at a speed twice less than four other models in the TS series, which includes the Canon Pixma TS9120, the choice of the editors, and the printing, good quality that best that acceptable, is not equal to the other four series TS. The AIO either.
The TS3129 provides a very low purchase price (but only about $ 20 less than the next model, the Canon TS5020). It prints also a little better and faster than the HP AIO’s 3755. If your budget is strict and does not allow you to choose one of the other series, TS, or the Epson XP Pixmas – 440, more expensive, the TS3129 prints, copies and scans well enough to make a decent model. choice for home offices and families.
